In my mind it wouldn’t be that difficult to make a museum more blind friendly in fact I’ve literally been to museums that have done a much better job addressing accessibility for blind visitors. You would think such a well known establishment in the middle of New York City would have this on lock but here we are once again wishing there was a better way to make this a more inclusive experience. It’s ok though cause I lasted mentally about 30 mins but after that all the descriptions and things started to blend together and I had to find the joy of seeing through my daughters eyes. Hearing her excitement and letting her guide me around was all worth it I guess I just get a little frustrated that I can’t teach her more myself. Like if there was even the smallest portion of the signs in braille it could make it easier for me to even pretend I know what I’m talking about to her. Because of the overstimulation factor we only scratched the surface of what this museum had to offer but then again we did go to the most sought after parts and it still lacked the ability to engage someone without sight for a long period of time or to navigate independently I mean I guess if I had know 2 weeks in advance that I was coming here I could’ve inquired about one of their accessible tours and maybe that would’ve been cool #blind #museum #accessibility #inclusion #nyc 🦖🦕
