“I don’t regret being a girl.”

Of everything Cherie shared with me on Her Layered Life, those words from a young girl in Kenya have stayed with me.

Because there is so much that comes with being female that can feel heavy.

Monthly cycles. Hormones. Changing bodies. Pregnancy and childbirth for some of us. And so many things girls begin learning to navigate long before they fully understand them.

But I never want the weight that can come with being a woman to make a girl wish she weren’t one.

And sometimes helping girls understand the divinity of who they are looks incredibly simple.

It looks like making sure a girl has what she needs to manage her period so she can go to school, run, dance and participate in her own life.

It looks like answering our daughters’ questions without shame.

Teaching them to understand and care for their bodies.

Talking about womanhood in a way that reminds them their bodies are not an inconvenience and being female is not something they need to apologize for.

Because there is divinity in being a daughter of God.

Before what she accomplishes.
Before who she marries.
Before whether she ever becomes a mother.

She is His daughter.

And I believe there is purpose in the way He created the female body—including its incredible capacity to create and nurture life.

For some women, that will include carrying a child. For others, their story will look different. Neither changes the divinity of who they are.

Maybe part of our responsibility as women is to help the girls coming behind us recognize that.

To give them what they need.
To teach them.
To support them.
And to celebrate with them what it means to be a girl.

Because every girl deserves the chance to run, to dance, to become—and to never regret that God made her a girl.

We rise together. 🤍
