For Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’re highlighting organizations working to help survivors of violence and exploitation find safety, healing, and the support they need to move forward. Voluntad takes a survivor-centered approach, helping people rebuild stability and reclaim the agency that exploitation can take away.

Grantee Spotlight: Voluntad

Since 2007, Voluntad has provided healing-centered, trauma-informed support to human trafficking survivors in Denver. The organization’s approach is grounded in a simple belief: people who have experienced similar trauma and found a path toward recovery are uniquely equipped to support others on their journey. In 2021, Street’s Hope became Voluntad—a name reflecting the freedom and personal agency survivors work to reclaim after exploitation.

With support from Caring for Denver, Voluntad is expanding its capacity to provide bilingual behavioral health support, including a part-time bilingual therapist. Participants can access individualized mental health and substance misuse counseling, clinical case management, group psychoeducation, and peer-led education and community building. By meeting people where they are and helping them work toward self-determined goals, Voluntad creates individualized pathways toward stability, recovery, and long-term wellness.

Healing means having the freedom to decide what comes next. Voluntad helps survivors build the stability, support, and confidence to reclaim their agency and create healthier futures for themselves and their families.
