## Caption

Van der Waals forces describe several types of intermolecular attractions, including dispersion forces and dipole interactions. Hydrogen bonding is a particularly strong type of dipole interaction that occurs when hydrogen is associated with highly electronegative atoms such as nitrogen, oxygen or fluorine. Hydrogen bonds are still much weaker than covalent bonds within molecules, but they can strongly influence boiling points, solubility and the structure of biological molecules.
