Can you rent a home in Spain completely remotely? Technically, sometimes yes. But I usually don’t recommend it.

My advice is to rent temporary accommodation for your first month and search for your long-term home once you’re actually here.

And when you start looking:

— Give yourself at least a month for viewings, paperwork, registration and the whole rental process.
— Have enough money ready for the first month, deposit, possible additional guarantees and agency costs where applicable.
— Don’t just check the apartment. Check the neighborhood, the building and the surroundings.
— Make sure you know who actually owns the property and that the person renting it to you has the right to do so.
— Never send money for a property you haven’t properly verified.
— Have a lawyer review the rental contract before you sign it.
— Prepare your rental application in advance: income, employment, financial documents and everything else that can make you a stronger candidate.

Because in Spain, especially in competitive cities, finding an apartment is not only about finding one you like.

The owner also needs to choose you.

See first. Check everything. Then sign.

And if you don’t want to handle the whole process alone, housing search is part of our Dreamlife ALL-IN relocation support. Apply through the link in my bio. 💙
