Pitt is one of nine U.S. universities the Trump administration said it would investigate for potential visa fraud.

The probe will consider whether the nine universities take advantage of the J-1 visa program, which allows international students to work and study in the U.S., according to Vice President JD Vance. In his announcement at a news conference on Thursday, Vance said the administration believes the institutions improperly use the program to avoid paying relatively higher wages to U.S. citizens.

Pitt spokesperson Jared Stonesifer confirmed the University received a subpoena from the Department of Labor, adding that Pitt participates in the J-1 and other visa programs “in accordance with all applicable federal requirements.”
