A walk and rally for climate action took place Sept. 20 at the Boone County Courthouse Plaza in Columbia, organized by Mid-Missouri Peaceworks and co-sponsored by the Sierra Club.

The Walk for the Climate event began around 1 p.m. with speakers from both groups ana few Missouri candidates sharing why the fight for climate is important. Following the speeches, community members walked through the streets of Columbia with signs advocating for environmental regulation.

“The purpose of (the event) is to create awareness that the climate crisis is getting worse and that not enough people are taking action to help address it, and also that we can address it by voting the right people into office — people that care,” Carolyn Amparan, chair of the Sierra Club’s Missouri chapter, said.
