Oop! #SunnyHostin is opening up about the conversation she had with #CynthiaErivo after receiving backlash over her recent comments about the controversial “Cornell 7” sexual assault case. According to variety,
during an episode of The View’s “Behind the Table” podcast, Hostin revealed that Erivo reached out to her after seeing the viral clip of her discussing the case. _________________________ 
Hostin had faced criticism after explaining why prosecutors did not bring criminal charges against the seven male students accused of sexually assaulting a female Cornell student in 2024. Hostin acknowledged that her decision to “lead with the law” may have caused viewers to misunderstand her position. _________________________
“I needed, I felt, to bring us back to this New York law, which is really terrible and needs to be changed,” Hostin explained. According to Hostin, Erivo called her while she was in Paris working on a project and expressed concern about how the segment came across. “She called me and said, ‘Sis, I know you, and I know your heart and your life’s work has been about protecting women and children. But the clip that I saw doesn’t reflect who you are,” Hostin recalled.

Hostin said Erivo also acknowledged that the two share a similar blunt communication style, but encouraged her to consider how people receive her words. “She said she’s had to learn to give people her opinion in a way that they can receive it rather than just be blunt,” Hostin added. _________________________
As we reported prosecutors declined to pursue criminal charges against the men in 2024. Jane Doe has since filed a civil lawsuit naming the accused men and several institutions, including Cornell University and organizations connected to the case.
