A 20-year-old male UC Berkeley student was struck by a car and severely injured while crossing Telegraph Avenue at Carleton Street Friday evening. 

The Berkeley Police Department responded to the scene at about 10:09 p.m., just as a crowd of UC Berkeley students were beginning to leave a nearby party, and placed the student on a stretcher. An ambulance transported him to Highland Hospital in Oakland where, according to a statement from BPD given Monday morning, he remains in critical but stable condition.

BPD has described the driver as a 64-year-old Oakland woman who was heading south down Telegraph Avenue when she struck the student. She remained at the scene after the collision and is cooperating with police.
