Charlie and Charlie take a deep dive into the LA Clippers’ punishment for breaching NBA salary cap regulations, as owner Steve Ballmer faces a $30 million fine, a one-year suspension from active involvement and the loss of five future first-round draft picks. They examine the alleged circumvention of salary rules involving Kawhi Leonard, the severity of the NBA’s sanctions and why the case offers a fascinating comparison with Manchester City’s ongoing battle with the Premier League.

From conflicting explanations over Manchester City’s sponsorship payments and historic evidence involving Etihad to the potential challenges facing City’s appeal, they ask whether the club’s defence can withstand renewed scrutiny. They also examine the Premier League’s handling of the case, the work of chief executive Richard Masters and whether his pursuit of City has finally established his authority. Could Manchester City’s historic statements undermine its appeal? Is Richard Masters emerging as the figure capable of holding the biggest clubs accountable?
