One of my favorite free museums in Paris also has one of the prettiest hidden-gem cafés I found in Le Marais. 

The Musée Carnavalet is dedicated to the history of Paris and is housed inside two gorgeous historic mansions in the heart of Le Marais. The permanent collection is free, and between the period rooms, architecture and beautiful courtyard gardens, the museum itself is worth the visit.

But don’t miss the restaurant and café at Musée Carnavalet. Tucked inside the museum’s courtyard garden, it feels like a little secret spot away from the busy streets of the Marais. Even if you’re not planning a long museum visit, I’d come here just to sit in the courtyard with a coffee or stop for lunch.
