#BREAKING: The shooting happened around 1 a.m. outside Versalles Reception Hall, located near Main Street and Stapley Drive.

Investigators say a teen boy attempted to go inside a Halloween party that was being held at the reception hall, but was denied entry. In response, he pointed a gun at the security guard and fired at him, police said.

Mesa Police Det. Jose Aguirre said an off-duty officer was working at the event when gunshots rang out. After shooting the security guard, the underage suspect ran towards a vehicle as both the security guard and the off-duty Mesa police officer returned fire.
