This is one of the sides of plastic surgery I love the most. Reconstructive surgery.

Not every surgery is about reversing aging or improving aesthetics. Sometimes, it’s about correcting something a person has lived with since birth.

Our patient was born with hemifacial microsomia, a congenital condition in which one side of the face doesn’t develop as fully as the other.

In her case, the right side of her face was significantly underdeveloped, affecting her jaw alignment, bite, cheekbones, and overall facial symmetry.

She had already undergone facial implant surgery in the past, but there were still underlying skeletal differences that needed to be addressed.

For this reason, we planned a comprehensive facial reconstruction, combining double jaw surgery, genioplasty, and five custom-made facial implants, while also removing her previous implants.

The entire procedure was planned virtually using her own 3D anatomy, allowing us to carefully design the bone movements, surgical guides, and implants before entering the operating room.

What I particularly enjoy about cases like this is that we’re not simply changing someone’s appearance. We’re working with complex anatomy, trying to restore what didn’t fully develop naturally, while respecting the patient’s individual facial features.

To me, this is one of the most fascinating and rewarding aspects of plastic surgery.

And behind all these technical details is a patient who has lived with this asymmetry her entire life. That’s something I always keep in mind when planning a case like this.

What you’re seeing here is our virtual surgical plan, not the final postoperative result.
