At the President's Tech Brief, Brandon Daniels, CEO of Exiger, traces his company's approach to AI governance back to something deeply personal: building a tool to diagnose the link between his wife's rare autoimmune disease (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) and a related cluster of cancers — a tool that helped put her into clinical remission.

That experience convinced him governance can't be an afterthought. His solution: a "surge protector" built directly into the AI tooling — if a model starts draining too much compute, cost, or expanding its cyber footprint, it gets automatically shut off, without halting the model's ability to keep learning. 

His argument: AI capability is inert without the tooling and data access that make it useful — which means that's exactly where governance has to live.
