Global adventurer Karl Bushby pushes “The Beast” through the town centre as he begins his walk towards the North in Dover, England. Karl Bushby first set off from Chile in November 1998 with the mission of traversing the world on foot without the use of transport, and only returning home to the UK once the journey was complete. After trekking nearly 28 years and 30,000 miles through 29 countries, the former British paratrooper completed a multi-day swim across the English Channel on October 5, touching back on UK soil for the first time in Dover. The final leg of the remarkable journey he refers to as the “Goliath Expedition” will see Bushby walk more than 250 miles to his mother’s home in Hull, northeast England. | October 09, 2026 | 📷: leonnealphoto | #GettyImages
