Heartbreak helped shape Overgrown, but Joyce Wrice had to look somewhere different for Machiko. On B-Sides, she tells Sheila Matthews how digging into past experiences gave her new things to say, even when she wasn’t feeling heartbroken. The R&B singer reflects on becoming more self-aware, trusting her instincts, and embracing a more playful approach to music. She also discusses the challenge of making content while protecting her creativity and her hopes for a major headlining tour. It’s a conversation about writing honestly as your life and sense of self change.
