A downtown Des Moines pro soccer stadium proposed by the group that holds Major League Soccer’s Kansas City franchise would house the group’s feeder team on a site with a commanding, skyline view of Iowa’s capital city.

It sets city leaders on a course to decide between Sporting Kansas City’s proposal and a longstanding plan by a local group centered on a former Superfund site just south of downtown's Western Gateway.

The renderings Sporting Kansas City provided in a Tuesday, Oct. 6, presentation to a media roundtable in Des Moines show the stadium would occupy what is currently a pair of parking lots for Principal Financial Group’s campus on the north side of the central business district.
