This company designs robots that will do yard work for you.

It’s called Electric Sheep.

Electric Sheep has spent the last 6 years building robots for the physical world.

They started with RAM...their Roomba-like mower.

And recently, they started demoing their latest creation...Verdie.

Verdie’s design serves a variety of outdoor needs...it has two arms that can be interchanged with a variety of tools.

It’s also designed with inspiration from R2-D2 and Wall-E.

The common configuration is “edge mode”, where Verdie can use a weedwacker + leafblower to precisely edge your entire lawn.

As I researched Electric Sheep, I noticed something super interesting...

Their goal isn’t to own the robot lawnmowing category...they’re thinking much bigger.

Electric Sheep has been using their outdoor robots to build a world model of physical space.

Essentially, they want to build an AI system that would easily allow any robot to instantly understand how to operate outdoors.

Here’s how they’re building the model today...

Whenever one of their lawncare robots encounters an edge case scenario, they log it, train on it, and it immediately uplevels the entire fleet.

Because of this, their lawncare robots don’t need to be fed detailed schematics of they properties they’re working on.

With Verdie, it took just 5 hours of training before it could successfully edge someone’s yard.

But here’s the craziest part...

Electric Sheep knew their biggest constraint wasn’t robot manufacturing...it was training data.

To solve this, they went out and bought several landscaping companies.

Now they can build the robots in house, send them out with human-led landscaping crews, and instantly 4x their real world training dataset.

The team believes that in a few years they’ll have dozens of different robots that can perform all basic outdoor lawn tasks.

I love finding wild tech companies like this!

Btw, if you run a tech company and want to tell better video stories like me, I put together a full playbook for how to make better short-form videos. Comment “viral” and I’ll send it to you.
