Stop trying to block the shot.

You're not after a highlight. You're after a bad shot and zero free throws. Whatever level you play, a high contest without a foul drags down how efficiently the other team scores.

HEAR IT.
Jump straight up. You can't jump from A to B. Jump from A and land in A. Arms up, elbows and wrists behind your ears. When contact comes, don't fold. Tighten your core and absorb it.

SEE IT.
Watch the clips in the video and look at where the hands go. Refs don't call fouls. They call what looks like a foul. Swiping down at the ball looks guilty. Slapping up looks clean, and if you miss, the ball may pop right back to you.

DO IT.
Big space, sprint. Small space, slide. That's how you stop a player from getting by you without reaching in or poking a leg out.

Then take away the strong hand. Take away the shot. Leave them one option, never a straight line to the basket. Now they're the ones guessing.

Next practice, have a partner attack you one-on-one for ten reps. Your score is zero reaches, zero pokes, zero whistles.

The best defender doesn't hand out gifts. Make them earn every point.
