Boston, keep an eye on the sky tonight.

The Draconid meteor shower is expected to peak this evening, with 5–10 meteors per hour possible under ideal conditions. Unlike most meteor showers, the best time to catch this one is shortly after dark, with viewing expected to be favourable around 9 p.m. ET.

Boston’s city lights could make fainter meteors difficult to spot, so your best chance is to find somewhere darker with an open view of the sky. No telescope or special equipment needed.

And there’s another celestial event on the way. The Orionid meteor shower is expected to peak October 21–22, potentially producing up to 20 meteors per hour under dark skies.

By the way, we have a weekly newsletter rounding up what’s worth doing and knowing about in Boston. One newsletter. Once a week. Link in bio.
