Before something becomes a habit, it has to become a decision.

Habits are powerful.

When a behavior becomes familiar enough, you don’t have to spend nearly as much energy convincing yourself to do it.

But there’s a step that comes before the habit.

You have to begin.

Before the routine feels natural.

Before you’ve built momentum.

Before you have months of consistency behind you.

At some point, you have to make a conscious decision:

This matters to me.

This is what I’m going to do.

I’m going to take the first step.

And then you give yourself another opportunity to make that decision tomorrow.

Over time, repetition can make the behavior easier. What once required conscious effort can start becoming part of how you naturally operate.

That’s one of the places self-leadership and habit-building meet.

Self-leadership helps you make the decision.
Repetition helps you build the pattern.
The pattern makes the next decision easier.

And eventually, something that once required enormous effort can simply become part of what you do.

But somebody still has to take the first step.

That’s you.
