What does it mean to tell the story of American art? At Sotheby’s, 250 Years of American Art & Culture brings together more than 120 works spanning art, history, and popular culture - from a signed facsimile of the Declaration of Independence and a portrait of George Washington to works by Georgia O’Keeffe and Edward Hopper, Norman Rockwell illustrations, and the original Sesame Street archive.

The exhibition takes us beyond familiar categories to discover unexpected connections: between artists and eras, fine art and popular culture, and American creativity and its global influences. By placing these works in conversation, it offers a fresh perspective on the many forces that have shaped – and continue to shape – American culture.
