Tennis Ball Review: Dunlop ATP Tour XD

This ball surprised me! It has its pros and cons, but I really liked it overall. The bounce test came in at 24.5 inches (~66cm) before and after playing for 2.5 hours. The consistency is impressive given each ball weighed slightly different between 57-58g.

The first 10 minutes with these balls reminded me of the Slazenger Wimbledon balls. They were incredible and very fast. However, they fluffed up like crazy after that and slowed down considerably. But unlike the Wimbledon ball, they still had a nice consistent bounce. Everyone enjoyed hitting with them. The bounce is lower than other balls and when you combine that with the fluff… you have a ball that’s great for rallying and for those wanting to work on footwork. Personally, I don’t think I’d want to use these in a real match as the fluff and slowness really impacts my serve. But for practice, for getting into long rallies and repetitions… this an EXCELLENT ball. It’s also a lot of fun to play with.

After cutting it open, the quality of the rubber is excellent; however, there was blue glue. Never seen that before.

Concluding remarks: these balls are FUN to hit with and I think they are ideal for rallying and working on footwork.

Overall Grade: B tier
