Two people are in critical condition after a possible carbon monoxide exposure at a home in Anthem Thursday morning.

Daisy Mountain Fire crews responded around 11 a.m. to reports of a hazardous situation at a home near Club Pointe Drive and Hazelhurst Drive. When first responders arrived, they found two people inside suffering from apparent carbon monoxide exposure. Both were taken to a hospital in critical condition. Fire officials believe the pair were doing construction work when they became sick.

The official cause is under investigation, and officials say what produced the carbon monoxide is unknown. A construction worker at the scene told Arizona’s Family the two had been running propane-fueled equipment in an unventilated area. That account has not been confirmed by officials. A portion of the residential street was taped off as the investigation continues.

The workers’ names, ages and current condition have not been released.
