A second former Centennial High School student has filed a notice of claim against the Peoria Unified School District, accusing fired teacher Haley Beck of grooming and exploiting him. His attorney is seeking $7 million to settle the case. A notice of claim is a required precursor to a lawsuit against a public entity in Arizona.

The claim alleges the district failed to protect students and ignored warning signs and complaints until police intervened. It follows a $20 million notice of claim filed in January by a first former student. Peoria Unified says it has received both documents and will respond with legal counsel.

Beck and former Centennial teacher Angela Burlaka have been under investigation by Peoria police for more than a year over allegations involving a student. Police previously recommended charges, but neither woman has been charged. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has returned the case to Peoria police for further investigation, and the investigation remains active.

The allegations in the claims have not been proven in court.
