Looking to take the next step towards a unique and cinematic way of creating? Looking to achieve that so sought after film look but just don’t know how? Look no further! These two filters will help you achieve all of those things without losing quality or confidence.

Because honestly, I’d die without them. Well, not totally, but my style would. When I picked up my camera and committed to a lifetime of creating art that captured the light around it, Tiffen was the one I chose to help me achieve that. I haven’t taken my Pro-Mist off my lenses for going on 4 years now. They help me achieve the glow and warmth necessary in telling my unique story without failure. So when I was asked to test out their new filter, the Dark Contrast, I was all over it.

𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭: This filter gently tones down bright highlights while preserving clarity in the shadows, resulting in an overall softer contrast. It specifically pulls back intense bright areas without muddying dark regions, keeping detail and color accuracy intact. The effect adds a moody, shadow-rich atmosphere while still maintaining visibility across the frame. At stronger densities, colors can become more subdued and highlights take on a more stylized edge, often creating a subtle monochrome feel that works well for day-for-night looks.

𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐏𝐫𝐨-𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭: This filter blends a slight contrast reduction with a soft, painterly glow around lights, offering a unique variation on traditional halation effects. Even at low strengths, it introduces a noticeable bloom that adds warmth and dimensionality without shifting skin tones. These qualities become more pronounced at densities of 1/4 and higher. In stronger grades, the halation becomes bolder and more expressive, particularly around practical light sources, where the warm spill takes on a more dramatic presence.
