Save You A Seat. Much of our family gathered yesterday in person to hear my brother speak.  It was such a special and sacred gathering.

As I sat there holding Jenna’s hand, I thought about my dad. I thought about how much he would have loved to be there with us. Sitting next to my mom. Holding her hand, the way I was holding Jenna’s. I miss that for my mom. I miss that for my dad. I miss that for all of us.

When my brother and sister-in-law gave us our tickets, the outside of the envelope read: 

Trevor Fam, Mom + Dad. A ticket for my dad.

It was a saved seat. A quiet reminder that, through the gospel of Jesus Christ and the sacred ordinances of the temple, there are no empty chairs.

There is still grief. There will always be moments when we feel the space left behind by someone we love so deeply. But I believe with all my heart that heaven is near. 

I believe there are angels around us. I believe the Lord sends help in ways we may not always see, but can so often feel.

“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.  They shall bear thee up in their hands…” Psalm 91:11–12

“And are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” Hebrews 1:14

Yesterday, as I looked down the row to my right and to my left, I saw a long line of love. I felt the blessing of family. I felt the tender reassurance that the people we love are never truly lost to us because of Jesus Christ. The greatest blessing of the gospel, to me, is that the things which matter most can be eternal. The relationships. The memories. The love. The family.

I do not know why I have been so blessed, but I am deeply grateful for every person God has placed in my life.

“How great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth.” Mosiah 27:28

My greatest desire is that others might know, feel, and hope in these same truths.

I am so grateful for the saved seat. So grateful for a loving family. And grateful for a Savior who makes it possible that, one day, there will be no empty chairs.
