Yesterday was one of those days I will always remember.

I got to compete in HYROX with my son Beckham.

We ran together, pushed and pulled sleds, did burpees, carried weight, lunged, rowed and suffered a little together. It was hard. Really hard at times. And I loved it.

There was one moment that will stick with me more than anything else.

We had just finished the burpee broad jumps and I was hurting. Beckham came over, put his arm around me and encouraged me. I could tell he was proud of me.

Wow! That encouragement from a son is a powerful thing. We can always get that from The Son.

As a dad you spend so many years encouraging them. Telling them they can do hard things. Putting your arm around them when they’re tired or discouraged.

Then somewhere along the way they grow up and start doing the same thing for you.

I don’t have a picture of that moment. I don’t need one. It’s etched in my memory forever.

Looking through these pictures I just feel grateful.

Grateful for a healthy body. Grateful for a healthy son. Grateful that at 44 I can line up next to my 17 year old boy and we can run, lift, sweat, hurt and finish something hard together.

I know fathers and sons right now who would give anything to do something like this together, but physically they can’t. That thought isn’t lost on me.

Our bodies are a gift from God. Our health is a gift. Our kids are a gift. And the time we get with them is a gift.

“Let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” Hebrews 12:1

Yesterday I got to actually run a race with my son right beside me. What a blessing.

There will come a day when I can’t do this anymore. Which makes me want to say yes while I can.

More races, more mountains, more hunts, more hard things, more time together. Most importantly, more of whatever God asks me to do.

And every once in awhile, your son puts his arm around you and reminds you to keep going.

Love you Beck. What a blessing to be your dad. Proud of you buddy.

Yesterday we Conquered More together. Let’s do it again.
