She’s GOT JOY! This is Karlene, one of our dearest friends.

When we moved into the area almost 21 years ago, Karlene quickly became one of our family’s best friends. She has been a friend, neighbor, and even a grandma to our kids, showing up for their special moments and remembering a birthday card every year.

Karlene is 90.5 years old. But because she was born on leap day, she’s only celebrated 22 actual birthdays. She’s just getting started.

A couple Sundays ago, we heard Karlene share the most beautiful witness of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The kind of testimony that comes from years of wisdom, faith, and sacred moments walking with Him. Jenna and I are so grateful for her friendship and example.

Many of us knew that one thing at the top of Karlene’s bucket list was a helicopter ride.

I happen to have some very generous friends with helicopters. I reached out to see who might help get Karlene in the air, and every single one responded: YES!!!

The pilot who made it happen was President Galland, a recently returned mission president from the Nashville Tennessee Mission. And this is where I love seeing how God connects people.

My friend Spencer, who helps me create my content, served his mission under President Galland. Before Spencer and I really knew each other, President Galland recommended him to me, speaking not only of his talent, but more importantly, the quality of human being he is.

When missionaries are called to serve around the world, they are placed with mission leaders who can bless their lives forever. I love that their influence often extends far beyond the mission itself, blessing people they may never even know.

This time, Karlene and I happened to be on the receiving end of that blessing.

These relationships somehow came together to help one of our dearest friends experience something she had always dreamed of doing. I am in awe of how God works.

When we follow His loving guidance, doors open, relationships form, and blessings come into our lives that we could never have orchestrated on our own.

“All things denote there is a God.” (Alma 30:44)

What connections in your life help you recognize God?
