Last week, Jenna and I were blessed with the opportunity to serve for a few days at a youth missionary training event. Youth in our area have the opportunity to attend this experience up to three times during high school as they prepare to accept a call to serve the Lord and take the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.

This year was Beckham’s first year attending, and all three of us came away changed. It was an incredibly powerful experience, both personally and for us to share together. 

For Jenna and me, one of the greatest blessings was to stand side by side to share gospel lessons we had prepared together.  There is not much in life that brings a husband and wife together more than studying and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ together. I love having Jenna as my companion. 

With children who have served, are serving, and who will one day serve, it was a blessing to feel the spirit that so powerfully accompanies missionary work. There is something special about being around young people who are preparing to dedicate their time and attention to the Lord. It filled us with hope, gratitude, and excitement for what lies ahead in each of their lives. 

One of my favorite moments was standing beside Jenna as we testified together that Jesus is the Christ, our Savior, Redeemer, Brother, and truly everything to and for us. As Jenna shared her witness of who Jesus Christ is to her, as she expressed, “My Jesus”, from her teenage years until now, I found myself in awe of the testimony and connection with Him she has gained through her own experiences. She makes me want to be better. She makes me want to focus more intently on Him.

It’s Jenna’s birthday weekend, and of all the things I love and admire about her, I am most grateful for her love of Jesus Christ. I am grateful the youth we served were able to feel her powerful witness, but even more grateful that our children get to experience it every day in our home. She is an incredible mother who knows her Jesus.
