REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY

This week we’ve been studying Book of Exodus 20 and the Ten Commandments. One that hits me personally is “remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

I’ve seen this commandment lived in many different ways. For me, it has become an outward sign of an inward commitment to follow the Savior Jesus Christ. A day where I choose to honor Him differently.

I also can’t think about this principle without thinking of my parents. I remember a very specific and sacred sabbath day for our family.

This chapel, the 16th Street Chapel in Washington DC, is where they met on a Sabbath day.

My father was attending George Washington University and went to worship like he always did. My mother, working as a flight attendant, was in DC for the first time. Instead of sightseeing with her crew, she chose to keep her commitment to God, found a chapel, and attended church.

On that faithful day, their paths crossed.

About a year later they were married.

35 years later, they were called to preside over the Washington DC North Mission for the churchofjesuschrist , right where it all began. I was blessed to be there as a youth and serve alongside them. To witness their love story come full circle by honoring God through their commitments was special.

DC has taken on a new meaning for our family.

Destination Celestial.

I’ve seen the generational impact of one simple, faithful decision. A choice to honor God. A choice that ripples into children, grandchildren, into missions, into thousands of lives changed.

“He that honors God, God will honor.”

I’ve seen that and I have felt that on so many occasions.

It has caused me to look at my own Sabbath differently. Not just as a day of rest, but as a day to realign, to worship, and to remember who I follow.

My challenge this week:

What would it look like for you to honor God more intentionally this Sunday?

Not perfectly. Just intentionally.

One small change. One deeper focus. One act of worship that reflects your commitment to Him.

You never know what God might do with one faithful decision.
