Savvy spoke to our entire congregation for the first time this past Sunday. She did so, so good.

This photo of me and her was from when she spoke in Primary for the first time, many years ago. This last week, now as a youth, she was asked to speak on any topic of her choosing from the For the Strength of Youth guide.

We read through the topics together and she chose Find Joy in Christ.

I loved sitting with her and talking about that choice. She shared feelings she had after hearing ulisses__soares teach us about joy when we met with him the week prior. I loved that she didn’t just pick a topic, she picked something personal. Something she had felt and learned from an Apostle.

Then she listed the times she feels joy.

Reading her scriptures each night before bed. 

Saying her prayers morning and night. 

Spending time with her family and friends. 

She shared that in the temple she feels joy a little different. Not loud or full of personality. But a joy full of peace, focus, and closeness to the Savior.

She even shared that if you had watched us say goodbye to her sister at the airport, you might not think we were full of joy. There were tears. Tight hugs. Lots of somber emotions. In Brazil they say “Saudades” or longing. 

But the reality is, our joy was full.

Full because of the confidence we felt in trusting Kenzie and our family to the Lord. In that trust, there is peace. And in that peace, there is joy.

I’m grateful for moments like these. Watching faith take root in a young daughter of God. Watching joy grow quietly, deeply, and anchored in Christ. We are so proud of you, Savvylicious!
