“I feel Him with me.”

For months I’ve replayed this moment in my mind. Trying to imagine the courage it would take to say that “I love you” and “we’ll see you in 18 months.” At times it feels almost impossible. Not just for us as parents, but especially for these young disciples who turn from family and familiar comforts to walk with the Lord into lands, people, and languages they do not yet know.

But the courage comes. And it comes in a miraculous way as we witnessed today.

We love the scripture that teaches He will go before your face, be on your right hand and on your left. That promise gives my heart courage because I know it is true. I’ve lived it. I’ve felt it.

After tearful hugs, Kenzie quietly said she could feel Him with her and that she was ready to go.

As parents, there is no better way to let her go than into His loving and watchful care. She is His disciple, heading to a beautiful part of His vineyard to work alongside Him. This is His work. Could there be anything greater than watching your child willingly forsake all else, drop their nets, and give their whole heart to Jesus Christ?

And then to witness, in a moment of real need, how perfectly He fulfills His promise. Standing with her. Walking with her. Leading her forward into the great adventure of discipleship. The courage comes because of a confident connection with Him, Jesus Christ.

She is off on that adventure now. She is in His hands. And we trust Him with everything we are.

Last night as a family, I asked Kenzie what she would challenge us to do while she is gone. I loved her answer.

“Just do what I am doing. Focus everything on Jesus. Keep Him at the center. Serve and share with others, especially each other.”

Such wise counsel, Kenz. What a blessing it is to be part of the greatest work on the earth today. We are in this together.

Kenzie now joins over 80,000 missionaries proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. Her words will be His words. Her acts, His acts. How great is her calling.

We love you, Sister Farnes! You’ve got this, and He’s got you!!
