MEXICO HIGHLIGHT-  As many of you know I have a deep love for the people of Mexico having lived among them for two years. 

Meeting Gris brought back so many emotions from my mission. 

A few hours before meeting her we drove past her little business establishment on the curbside outside their home. As we drove by she yelled for us to stop and shop….but we didn’t. 

After driving around the island Jenna asked if we could drive back out of town to find something she had seen on the side of the road she thought might be a good souvenir to take home. Sure enough as we arrived it was the lady who had yelled to us a few hours earlier. The souvenir was a string of shells and it was hanging high in a tree. The cost of the souvenir was not much, but for Gris it would be a HUGE blessing for her and her family. Her husband Francisco arrived to the scene and was so overjoyed. She told him how much we paid and he excitedly asked if he could see the money. 

What happened next brought back the sweaty eyes of my mission. She began to take one thing from the side walk and placed it in each of the hands of our children and then another gift for both Jenna and I hugging us individually along the way. We hesitated and tried to turn the gifts away and then we gave in understanding the love by which she gave to us. This was the experience I had on my mission….people willing to give us their best, their only, what could bless their family, to ensure we know their love. There is nothing quite like giving and receiving gifts like this. It is a love that breaks a language barrier and allows us all to feel we our so much alike, made by the same Loving Father in Heaven who desires for us to know, find, and love each other. 

We swapped numbers and later that night her husband messaged to share a photo of the sunset and clouds Gris wanted us to see. Oh if she only knew how we #lookattheclouds and the heavenly message received through her humble reminder. 

I desire to have more experiences like this in my life, with my wife, and with my children. Grateful for Jenna being inspired with eyes to see a gift that would bless us and Gris. This is #howWEconquer
