The top photo was taken October 6th 2001 in Irapuato Mexico at the baptism of Virginia, a wonderful women me and my companion Elder Arenas were able to teach.

The bottom photo, today, almost exactly 22 years later Ruben Arenas was with me and my family visiting from Mexico.

I was Ruben’s trainer when he arrived to the mission in Mexico, meaning I was his first companion and was responsible to train him in the ways of missionary life, and to set an example for what a committed, and diligent missionary should be. I couldn’t believe it when he told me he had just joined our church one year prior and was just waiting for the day he could leave the comfort of his own home to share the gospel message that had changed his life.

In so many ways he ended up training me. His example and dedication as a disciple of Jesus Christ were life changing for me to witness. We had a successful companionship because we were both dedicated and committed to the cause of Christ.

He told my family at dinner that he remembered me always saying “Tengo Gozo” in english “I’ve Got Joy”. After 22 years what adds to my joy is to find that we are both still brethren in the Lord.

My mission changed my life because of the people the Lord brought into my life.
