La Catrina reminds us that no matter our beauty, wealth, or status, we are all equal in death. 🌼 

An icon of our Mexican culture, she represents accepting mortality while celebrating life. 

Día de los Muertos is celebrated throughout Mexico, with especially cherished traditions in Michoacán and Oaxaca, honoring our loved ones through ofrendas, flowers, food, and memories. 🧡

Día de los Muertos is celebrated throughout Mexico, with especially well-known traditions in Michoacán particularly Pátzcuaro and Janitzio and Oaxaca. Each community celebrates differently. 

La Catrina symbolizes that death comes to everyone, regardless of wealth, beauty, or social status. José Guadalupe Posada originally created her as La Calavera Garbancera, mocking people who rejected their Indigenous roots to appear wealthy and European. Diego Rivera later gave her the elegant, fully dressed appearance we recognize today. She became an iconic symbol of Día de los Muertos and Mexican cultural identity. 💀

The altar, or ofrenda, welcomes and honors loved ones who have passed away. 

In Día de los Muertos tradition, their spirits return to visit, and families prepare offerings to receive them with love. 

Each element has a purpose:
* Photos identify the loved ones being remembered.
* Candles and marigolds (cempasúchil) help guide their spirits home.
* Favorite foods and drinks welcome them and reflect what they enjoyed in life.
* Personal belongings keep their stories and memories present.

At its heart, the altar expresses that our connection to those we love continues after death. Traditions vary by family and region.
