#UCSB is recognizing cultural contributions this #HispanicHeritageMonth, highlighting the past, present and future, in a variety of ways this fall—and beyond.

💙 From early issues of "Lowrider" magazine to decades of photographs, audio recordings and video footage, the Luis J. Rodriguez Papers are now open for research in ucsblibrary's Special Research Collections. Rodriguez is a pivotal artist and public figure—and author of the classic 1993 memoir, "Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A." Part of the California Ethnic & Multicultural Archives (ucsbcema), the papers provide scholars, students and community members with a rich resource for studying Chicano literature and social movements.

💙 At the campus adamuseum, there's the "Jackie Amézquita: Gemidos de la Tierra" exhibition, in which the Guatemalan-born artist jackieamezquita handcasts the names of people who have died while in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

💙 And then there's "Finding Fiesta," an exhibit exploring the communities and current events reshaping the city’s Old Spanish Days celebration. On display at Casa de la Guerra in Downtown SB, the exhibit evokes nostalgia while calling for more recognition of wide-ranging cultural histories. The yearlong archival project by students in local schools is a "Community in Action" installment of the ihcucsb at UCSB, working closely with teachers in the community, who dove into #UCSB Library's archives.
