This week’s #FirstieFriday is Lulandile Kgang, a member of 28th Company. As a member of 5th Battalion, she served as the battalion drill officer. In this key leadership role, she helped prepare all six companies to march onto Worden Field this afternoon with precision and discipline.

MIDN Kgang is from Richmond, Virginia, and is an Operations Research major. She was introduced to the military through JROTC.

“JROTC taught me the value of discipline. When I got accepted into the Naval Academy, I was most looking forward to being surrounded by other hardworking and high-achieving individuals. The camaraderie we share and the way we push ourselves to be the best versions of ourselves is something I hope to take into the Fleet to inspire and guide as many Sailors as I am able. I am grateful for the chance to lead others upon graduation.”

Upon commissioning into the Navy, she hopes to select Naval Flight Officer. One of her favorite summer training experiences was her aviation cruise in Norfolk with Airborne Command & Control Squadron (VAW) 126, flying aboard E-2D Advanced Hawkeyes. ✈️

“We were able to talk to several aviators from different platforms, and I got the opportunity to fly in the E-2D Hawkeye, which solidified my decision to select NFO.”

Another highlight of MIDN Kgang’s summer training was the opportunity to serve as a Plebe Summer platoon commander, where she was able to share her love of drill and inspire her platoon to do the same.

“I am excited to spend my last year at the Naval Academy making a positive impact on the underclassmen, as well as spending time with my classmates while we’re all in the same place. I look forward to service assignment week the most!”

On the Yard, she is a member of the Club Volleyball team. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies and shows, reading, and playing or watching volleyball. She also helps manage statistics for the varsity volleyball team.
