13 years ago today, Pitbull released ‘Timber’ featuring Kesha.

A song about timber came together when Pitbull (Armando Pérez) and Kesha joined Dr. Luke, Cirkut, and Sermstyle, with additional production by Nick Seeley, for the lead single from his 'Meltdown' EP, released October 7, 2013. Pitbull has said Rihanna was originally meant to be the featured artist but was busy recording Shakira's 'Can't Remember to Forget You.' The track interpolates 'San Francisco Bay' by Lee Oskar of the band War, and harmonica player Paul Harrington of Rockwall, Texas, plays throughout, told to emulate Oskar. The dance-pop sound has country and folk touches, and it was Kesha and Pitbull's third collaboration after remixes of 'TiK ToK' and 'Crazy Kids' and his 2009 song 'Girls.'

Kesha filmed her video scenes on November 5, 2013, and Pitbull followed a week later on November 12. The clip features a cameo from the Orlando group The Bloody Jug Band as a bar's house band. It premiered on Pitbull's Facebook page and Vevo channel on November 24 and reached over 73 million views by January 2014. The pair first performed the song together at the 2013 American Music Awards. 'Timber' later appeared on the deluxe edition 'Global Warming: Meltdown.'

'Timber' spent three consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Kesha's fourth chart-topper. It also topped the charts in Canada for eight straight weeks, as well as in Austria, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark. In 2022 it was certified Diamond in the United States, Kesha's first song to reach that milestone, which showed how long it kept finding new listeners.
