Today marks the global celebration of World Migratory Bird Day 2026, an international initiative dedicated to raising awareness of migratory birds and the challenges they face along their remarkable journeys.

Observed around the world, World Migratory Bird Day highlights the importance of international cooperation, community science, and public engagement in protecting birds that travel across countries, continents, and oceans.

This year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter!”, highlights the vital role community science plays in bird conservation, whether by reporting bird sightings or collisions, participating in local surveys, or contributing to established monitoring programs.

One of the most common threats birds face worldwide is glass, with reflections mimicking open sky or habitat, causing migrating birds to mistake glass for a safe flight path. With billions of birds moving across landscapes during migration season, bird-glass collisions increase significantly, making awareness, monitoring, and preventive action more important than ever.

Every observation contributes to a growing body of knowledge that supports research, informs conservation strategies, and helps shape policies that protect migratory birds for generations to come.

Every bird counts. Every observation matters. Take action today.

Treat your glass with Feather Friendly® Bird Collision Deterrent Markers and turn off unnecessary lights at night to help create safer conditions for migrating birds.
