Words matter, and the phrase “school refusal” can make it sound like a decision.

For most kids, it isn’t. 

It’s a body that has decided school isn’t safe, and a child who doesn’t yet have the tools to override that.

When I finally saw my daughter that way, I stopped fighting her and started helping her. 

That shift changed everything in our house.
