For me, watching the Yankees lose to Tampa the way they did is rinse and repeat. It’s just what they do at this time of the year. A million errors in big spots; they can’t hit when it matters, but maybe there are a few silver linings to look back on. For me, that’s Anthony Volpe’s Game 3 redemption, and even that we can’t fully celebrate because the league is rigged and took it away.

I don’t really get mad anymore. I sorta roll my eyes because the Yankees are fine with the status quo. Hal Steinbrenner gets his postseason gates. Brian Cashman can build a team that’s just good enough, and then there’s Aaron Boone, standing around taking all the heat for the owner and GM. That’s his main purpose at this point.

Just get mad at him to make you forget the other two exist. It feels like we can say this about every postseason exit from this era, and nothing really changes.

I hate to sound nihilistic, but the Yankees haven’t offered anything to be excited about or look forward to in a bit. I see what young fans post, and it’s mostly clips from after 2017. I feel pretty bad about that because they haven’t actually been able to witness anything. All those moments ended in a debilitating fashion, but there are pockets of coolness, I guess: the Judge homer last year, Gleyber’s big game in Houston in 2019, the Gary double in the 2017 ALCS, and Didi and the Wild Card. None of those things amounted to anything beyond a cool clip here and there.
