Bella’s journey hasn’t always been easy. After a difficult birth and time in the NICU, she experienced developmental and mobility challenges and was later diagnosed with epilepsy.

During a hospital stay, Bella and her mom, Alana, met a Canine Companions #facilitydog. 🏥 The dog climbed into Bella’s bed to snuggle, and Alana immediately saw the impact on her daughter. That moment inspired her to apply for a #servicedog.

🐕‍🦺 In May, Bella was matched with Service Dog Yauzer - raised by one of our very own Canine Companions staff.

Yauzer is already making a difference. When Bella has a seizure, he can lie beside her to provide support. As she recovers, Yauzer uses his “cover” cue to provide deep pressure and comfort.

Their partnership continues to grow. Alana has even taught Yauzer a new task called “blanket,” allowing him to retrieve Bella’s blanket from across the room.

Yauzer also helps Bella walk with greater confidence. At times, he uses two leashes, one held by Alana or her husband and another by Bella.

“He walks straight, and it helps her walk straight,” Alana says. “It helps her feel more comfortable walking and being out of her wheelchair.”

Bella and Yauzer are still a new team, but they’re already learning, growing and discovering what’s possible together.

“Having him is a blessing,” Alana says. “Yauzer was meant to be ours.”

Together, Bella and Yauzer are becoming more than a match; they’re becoming a team. 💛💙
