4,500 miles, five states, and one rule: follow the yellow line.
California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming. This was one of those trips you keep replaying in your head. Ride along with me: we start at sunrise in Monument Valley and finish on Route 66.

1. Monument Valley, Forrest Gump Hill: Sunrise. Even without a single cloud, this place always looks unreal. Just look at those colors.

2. US-26, Wyoming: This is how you roll into Grand Teton National Park. One open road, and the Tetons rise dead ahead as if they’ve been waiting for you.

3. Bicentennial Highway, Utah: A wall of red cliffs on the left, a lone rock tower dead ahead, and the canyon opening toward the Colorado River near Hite Crossing Bridge. My favorite view on this highway.

4. Million Dollar Highway, Colorado: Golden fall aspens, a rust-red mountainside, dark spruce green, and a road winding right through all of it.

5. Arches Scenic Drive, Utah: Rolling right up to The Organ. Look closely at its base: the shadows of The Three Gossips look just like people standing there.

6. Roy’s Motel & Café, Route 66, Amboy, California: One of the most iconic stops on Route 66, and my favorite place to pull over on it.

If you had the keys tomorrow, which road are you taking? Drop the number.
