🚨 Formula 1’s African Grand Prix is officially confirmed, with Rwanda securing a 10-year deal and the first race expected in the early 2030s!

F1 hasn’t raced in Africa since the 1993 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami.
⠀
The new purpose-built circuit is planned for Bugesera, around 40 kilometres south of Kigali, beside the new international airport and built to FIA Grade 1 standards.

Former F1 driver Alex Wurz and Tilke are designing a roughly 6-kilometre, 17-corner anticlockwise layout around two hills and a lake.

Plans include 197 metres of elevation change across a lap, cambered corners and banking, making the natural landscape a major part of the driving challenge.

The deal is signed, but the exact inaugural race date remains unannounced and the circuit must be completed before racing begins.

Kigali previously hosted the 2024 FIA Awards, where Max Verstappen collected the trophy for his fourth consecutive drivers’ world championship.
