A two-legged robot is being trialled delivering parcels to homes in northern England in what courier company Evri says is the first trial of its kind in Europe.⁣
⁣
The robot, named Iris, is being tested on pavements, stairs and uneven ground, as well as getting in and out of delivery vans.⁣
⁣
Developed by Refined Robotics, Iris can carry parcels weighing up to 15 kilograms and travel at speeds of up to 6 km/h. It can operate autonomously or be monitored remotely.⁣
⁣
Evri says the robot is designed to support couriers rather than replace them, handling part of the final leg of deliveries as demand for home delivery grows.⁣
⁣
The robot was operated remotely during the trial, with a person accompanying it at all times.⁣
⁣
