USATF Road Mile Championships 2023 🇺🇸 
4th place in 4:30
My coach and I purposely picked this race as a season opener for two reasons:
1- I’ve never done it before!
2- it’s not on the track, so I might be able to bring less expectation and pressure (self-imposed) to the race

Overall I would say it was personally a huge success! I stuck to my race plan and stayed calm when it got out HOT 🥵 (my first 1/4 mile was 65 seconds and I was in the back of the field!) then I made a move going into the turns after 1/2 mile and out myself in contention to podium in the last 1/4 mile. Got out-kicked by some serious speedsters, but given where my training is right now I’d say I raced above my fitness level!

Best part about the trip?
Easy. Getting reconnected with the running world, catching up with people I haven’t seen in a while and feeling a part of this awesome community. Almost everyone from my race warmed up together, which was so cool to see happen naturally. Then a bunch of us got pizza and sat in the hotel lobby after the race eating and just talking. It felt good.

Other highlights: watching nikkihiltz win the damn thing and then go on to talk about how important it is to have trans visibility in a state like Iowa that has introduced so many anti-trans bills and is especially harmful to trans youth. Nikki’s representation is so powerful and being a witness to that as a teammate, friend, and competitor is truly inspiring.

Thank you to everyone who made the Grand Blue Mile possible! We had SO much fun and I know it won’t be my last time competing in this event!
