This past week, our Grade 9 science students explored ecology by dissecting sterilized owl pellets to discover what barn owls eat and learn about feeding relationships between organisms. As Ms. Sousa explained, barn owls swallow prey, such as rodents and birds, whole. Indigestible materials—including bones, hair and feathers—are compressed into pellets and expelled through the mouth. The students had a great time getting hands-on with science and uncovering these connections in the natural world. #findyourself #learningsomethingnew #tanenbaumchat
