Male African crested porcupine “Mr. P” recently celebrated his 17th birthday in the African Rainforest Pavilion 🎈

At 17 years young, Mr. P continues to be in great health and is an eager participant in training sessions with his team, although we suspect his favourite foods provide a little extra motivation.

Corn, sweet potato and banana are all high on Mr. P’s list of favourites, along with his monthly meat bone. And for an extra-special treat? A little fruit juice will certainly hit the spot 🌽

Born at the Granby Zoo in 2009, Mr. P made the move to your Toronto Zoo in 2011 and since then, he has been charming our staff, volunteers, members and guests with his rather pointed personality.

When he’s not busy training or snacking, you can find this handsome, spiky gentleman sharing his habitat with some sharp roommates: the meerkat mob 🐾

Here’s to another trip around the sun for Mr. P! 17 has never looked so pointy 🦔 #GuardiansofWild
