🔬 A “new” organ in the female body? Kind of.

In 1870, anatomists described the rete ovarii — a tiny horseshoe-shaped structure at the base of the ovary. It even made it into early editions of Gray’s Anatomy.

But because no one knew what it did, it was quietly dropped from modern textbooks. Written off as useless.

Then biologist Jennifer McKey, imaging whole mouse ovaries, spotted that strange horseshoe again — and researchers started looking with fresh eyes.

What they found: three distinct regions, its own blood vessels and nerve connections, receptors for estrogen and progesterone — and fluids flowing straight into the ovary, carrying proteins that may influence egg development.

Its exact role is still unfolding (studied in mice so far). But an entire structure of the female body, ignored for a century… and we’re only beginning to understand it. Chinese medicine has always honored these mysteries 💚

Quantum cupping supports healthy pelvic circulation and lymph flow — the terrain where all of this lives.
